Becoming a Master Gardener

To become a certified Master Gardener in McCracken County, one must take a 60 hour course provided by the University of Kentucky Extension Service. The classes are held had various times of the year, rotating between daytime and evening hours. After successfully completing the course and passing the exam, participants become Master Gardener Trainees. Trainees are required to obtain 30 hours of volunteer work within a year of completing the course.

To maintain certification, a Master Gardener must obtain a minimum of 15 volunteer and/or educational hours. The certification hours must meet the requirements established by the Extension Agent Advisor.

To become a member of McCracken County Master Gardener Association a person must have met the Master Gardener Certification requirements and pay annual dues of $15.00. One does not have to be a member of MCMGA to be a certified Master Gardener.
